Description

For the backup of a WinCC SCADA project with active runtime, only the two systems described below are tested and released.

Attention!

By using a non-released backup method of the WinCC project during running operation, there is a risk that the WinCC project is damaged or data is lost! Do not use any other solution than listed below in the running operation of WinCC in any case. Also creating snapshots as well as "Volume Shadow Copies" (VSS) are not allowed as long as WinCC is active.

"Veeam Backup & Replication" is only released for SCADA projects in the context of "SIDSI Backup & Restore Professional" (point B).

A) WinCC Tool "Copy Project"

The external WinCC tool "Copy Project" allows you to save the complete project including all databases during Runtime operation. This allows you to keep the project planning data consistent or to implement a clean change management for validated plants.

The backup of the WinCC project can be triggered manually or automatically via a call in a WinCC action. The data backup takes place in a directory specified by the user including the date stamp of the current day.

Note

This only functions correctly on a WinCC single-user station / multi-user system and with an active WinCC project.

B) SIDSI Backup & Restore Professional

Alongside, the preconfigured system "SIDSI Backup & Restore Professional" within the scope of "SIMATIC DCS / SCADA Infrastructure" (SIDSI) as of V2.1 offers among others the possibility to backup the entire system on which a WinCC project is running in Runtime. Released and tested is "SIDSI Backup & Restore Professional" exclusively using certain virtualization systems or SIMATIC IPCs.
